3 People above all, who deserve to be thanked here are

Mark Stanczyck: One of my tutors at Duncan of Jordanstone college of Art, Dundee (and the driving force behind the Ceramics programme), who put me forward for teaching the children’s ceramic class on Saturday morning starting in September 1991 despite opposition from elsewhere in the Institution. This was the invaluable first bit of ‘hands on’ teaching experience (although I had done a few lectures prior to that) and set the ball rolling.

Bill McCreath: Professor of Ceramics at Montclair State University, New Jersey, USA, where I attended during two spells, the Spring of 1991 – whilst on exchange from DJCA- and again on the Graduate programme between 1992-95. In addition to his considerable abilities as a Tutor, Bill also actively recruited me as his Graduate Assistant enabling me to return and study in America and also gain more teaching experience, particularly with Undergraduate students.

The first two have become friends of mine, the third person is Fay Naylor the Principal at Hampstead Garden Suburb Institute whom I hardly know, but in the spring of 1996, enabled me to get the all important first teaching assignment on my return to the UK, by taking a chance on running a new class I had proposed.
